Blue Lake Days
A Typical Day
Campers begin each day at approximately 6:30am by getting up and ready for breakfast. Mornings are filled with classes and rehearsals until lunch at noon. After lunch, students participate in a minor course of their choice, or have individual practice or rest time. Afternoon classes and rehearsals end at 3:50pm, leaving plenty of time for recreation, rest, and time with friends before dinner. After dinner, evening activities include a wide range of events such as arts performances (concerts, recitals, opera, theater, dance, master classes or workshops) and camp fun (dances, all-camp sings, talent shows, carnivals, pizza parties, unit activities, and campfires). Unit staff call lights out with Taps.
Recreation and Free Time
Blue Lake provides a highly structured instructional day for students. But during daily recreation and free time, students are welcome to participate in recreational offerings, hang out with friends in Central Park, visit the camper pools, rest in their cabin, visit the Museum, or practice. Students are encouraged to participate in recreational activities with other campers and staff, such as basketball, beach volleyball, ga-ga ball, ping-pong, swimming, water games, soccer, kickball, frisbee golf, or touch football. Activities are supervised by staff members, who often can’t help but join in the fun!
On the middle Sunday of each Blue Lake session, students have the opportunity to sleep in, take advantage of a little morning free time, and enjoy a late breakfast. Blue Lake offers a brief non-denominational chapel service for those students wishing to attend. Morning instruction on this day includes specific department programs unique to the student’s chosen major, often consisting of interactive master classes, workshops, and casual faculty/staff recitals.
