Blue Lake International Jazz Band

The Blue Lake International Jazz Band is comprised of the instrumentation found in a traditional 18 piece jazz big band, with 5 saxes (alto, tenor and bari), 5 trumpets, 5 trombones and rhythm (piano, bass and drums). The group’s repertoire will range from the classic big bands of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis and Woody Herman to more contemporary composers such as Gordon Goodwin, Bob Mintzer, and John Fedchock.

Each of the groups in the Blue Lake International Exchange Program will visit five to seven towns (hosting communities) in Europe.

Mr. Jensen began his career at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp very early.  A native of Whitehall Michigan, he attended summer camp throughout middle school and high school and toured Europe as a student with the International Jazz Band in 1982. Currently, he is co-coordinator of the Jazz Department and a veteran teacher on the camp's jazz staff, directing bands during the summer sessions and playing trombone in the Faculty Jazztet. He, his wife Lisa and children Kyrstin and Andrew (Blue Lake International alumni!) are residents of Royal Oak Michigan. When not making music, the Jensen family can be found somewhere enjoying Michigan’s beautiful outdoors.  The 2018 trip will be Mr. Jensen’s sixth tour with the International Jazz Program.
