Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp has received assistance in its effort to provide scholarships for the 2008 camp season for students with financial need from Ottawa County. This effort is made possible in part by a grant from the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area, which has provided $3,000 from their W. K. Kellogg Fund.
Blue Lake’s grant proposal was reviewed by the Foundation’s Youth Advisory Committee (YAC), which makes its funding recommendations to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Blue Lake’s mission to educate and motivate gifted young people interested in the arts, selected from a wide geographic area and a broad spectrum of socio-economic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds reflects the YAC’s aim to fund projects that benefit the youth of Ottawa County.
Participation by Ottawa County students has traditionally been strong, but, given the continued sluggishness of Michigan’s economy, Blue Lake is seeking to provide more opportunity for Michigan children with financial need to attend camp. The generous $3,000 grant from the W. K. Kellogg Fund of the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland area will assist the camp in its efforts to recruit more children from Ottawa County.
