Blue Lake's Summer Camp For Adults
Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp offers a unique setting in which to enjoy your choice of art or music making, and the Michigan outdoors, in the natural surroundings of a State Forest. Blue Lake strives to maintain an atmosphere where students young and not so young who want to learn, may do so in an environment which encourages creativity and recognizes the importance of the individual. Adult Campers are accepted at whatever their proficiency level may be and are encouraged to grow. Faculty and staff strive to motivate campers and share with them the joy of achievement in the fine arts. Enthusiasm is contagious as campers participate and enjoy.
Adult Program Offerings
Most adult programming at Blue Lake consists of four-day specialty mini-camps, providing multiple daily instruction sessions, meals with faculty and participants, performance outlets, admittance at major evening arts activities, and access to an unlimited variety of recreational activities in the area. Blue Lake’s Campus
Blue Lake is located north of Muskegon, Michigan, in the Manistee National Forest and on the shore of Little Blue Lake. The campus is situated in the middle of 1,200 acres of preserved forest containing large white and red pine, oak, and maple trees. Camp Niblock, the camp area for Adult Programming is currently in the process of developing additional on-site facilities and campsites.
Instructional Facilities
All Adult Camps, except the new Shakespeare Camp, will use the newly renovated Camp Niblock adult camp rehearsal and teaching buildings. The main building is spacious and air conditioned, and will be used for classes during the day and available for adult camp activities in the evening.
Shakespeare Adult Camp will use “the Rose” as their instructional venue. “The Rose” in honor of London’s first of the Elizabethan period (circa 1587), is a synthesis of various popular 16th Century English theaters. The design is based upon surviving sketches and documents from that period. “The Rose”, approximately half the size of Shakespeare’s Globe Theater in London, has a traditional thrust stage, a Juliet balcony, seating for approximately 600 in two galleries, plus a groundling area providing space for an additional 150 attendees in the yard. Blue Lake is pleased to offer instruction in "The Rose".
Session Schedules
Most programs begin with check-in at 3:00pm, followed by orientation, the first class session, and a social gathering. Regular classes begin first thing in the morning and continue through the afternoon, with appropriate breaks for meals, recreation, rest, and evening activities. Camp concludes with a final performance or exhibit. Participants may depart by approximately 2:00pm on the final day, or choose to stay for the camp’s performance of the evening.
On the Air
Blue Lake Public Radio, WBLV 90.3 in Muskegon & WBLU 88.9 in Grand Rapids, is located on the campus of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Campers often have the opportunity to attend live broadcasts at William Stewart Memorial Music Shell.
Tuition
$210 (which includes instruction and meals for duration of session). All applications must be accompanied by a $75 non-refundable registration fee, which is applied to the basic fee. Balance of the fee must be paid approximately 30 days prior to the first day of the session to be attended. If written notice to withdraw arrives 10 working days before the opening of the session, all payments made, less the $75 deposit, will be considered for refund. Early registration is recommended.
Accommodations
Accommodations for participants are available in the White Lake and Muskegon areas. Please visit www.whitelake.org or www.muskegon.org for a listing of lodging in the area. We strongly recommend early reservations as our area is known for summer tourism. Blue Lake offers a small camping area for self-contained travel trailers and tents. We provide electric and restroom/shower only. No water or sewage available for hook-ups. Some size restrictions may apply for very large RV’s. See application for further details.

Meals
All meals during the session are included in the instructional fee. Participants dine with Blue Lake instructional faculty in Kresge Lodge. Spouses of camp participants can purchase a meal package for a $50 fee. See application for further details.
Health Facilities
The Health Lodge provides first-aid care for all campers and deals with any emergencies which may occur. A camp nurse and other certified personnel are available 24 hours a day to assist participants with any medical needs that may arise. Med-center and hospital care are available 15 minutes from the camp. A health history form is required of participants and will be mailed upon enrollment.

Camp Uniform
A camp uniform is worn by all participants. The official camp uniform shirt is a light blue cotton/polyester knit polo with collar and short sleeves, and must be purchased in the camp store upon arrival. The remainder of the uniform consists of navy blue slacks, jeans, skirt, or shorts. Details will be sent upon enrollment.
Camp Policies
Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp expects all participants in all programs to abide by the camp policies. Smoking is prohibited throughout central camp and any public facilities on camp. Consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited throughout central camp. Pets are not allowed on camp. Blue Lake encourages low impact camping and preservation of our environment – camping and campfires are permitted in designated areas only. Participants are required to wear the uniform during classes, at meals, and while on central camp.
Directions to Blue Lake
Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp is located 12 miles north of Muskegon and 3 miles east of U.S. 31 expressway. Take U.S. 31 to the Russell Road exit. Follow Russell Road for approximately five miles to the camp entrance on the right, which is Crystal Lake Road. Turn right on Crystal Lake Road and turn left in to the Camp Niblock entrance.
